Bemisa Success Case: from manual management to integrated control with Engeman®

One of the major challenges many companies still face is the lack of centralized information, especially in the maintenance area. When critical data is controlled only in spreadsheets, notes, or manual records, management becomes slower, more prone to errors, and lacks the visibility needed for assertive decision-making.

This scenario, which is very common in companies today, compromises the efficiency and reliability of processes, directly impacting the company’s profits.

In today’s success case, you will see how Bemisa overcame these obstacles and achieved greater control and integration in maintenance management. We spoke with Walfrido Perdigão – quality and cost analyst – who told us how the transition from manual management to Engeman® transformed the team’s routine and the company’s results. Check it out!

About Bemisa

Bemisa is one of the leading Brazilian companies in the mining sector. With 18 years of experience, the company works with a wide range of minerals and is committed to growing in a sustainable way and with social responsibility.

With complex operations and a large fleet, Bemisa was looking for solutions that would increase maintenance efficiency and allow information to be centralized in an organized and accessible way. With these needs in mind, Bemisa found in the Engeman® maintenance management software the solution to its problems.

Bemisa’s challenge

Before adopting Engeman®, Bemisa faced increasing difficulties with the volume of work orders and the decentralized management of information. Processes were manual and paper-based, and histories were stored in spreadsheets, which made reliable management very difficult.

According to Walfrido: “We had an Excel-based control that worked for us up to a certain point. As the maintenance processes became more ‘mature,’ it required us to look for something better for maintenance management.”

The search for greater agility and reliability made a specialized technological solution indispensable, one that could be adapted to Bemisa’s processes. As a result, they found in Engeman® the functionalities needed to change and solve the company’s problems.

Engeman® implementation

Once the software was contracted, the phase that many companies may fear began, since at this moment, important information can be lost if the process is not performed with expertise. The implementation of Engeman® went smoothly, largely because Bemisa had already organized data ready to be loaded into the system.

“The Excel template spreadsheets for loading data into the database provided by Engeman really made the process easier. The Bemisa team’s familiarity with SQL language helped a lot in the process,” said Walfrido.

The autonomy of the operations area stands out, as it handled the loading of the tables quickly and in a structured way, ensuring agility at the start of the implementation. The IT team remained an essential partner for system support and continuity.

Results achieved with Engeman®

With Engeman®, Bemisa began to have all data centralized in a single system, which brought greater visibility and control over assets. Bemisa achieved excellent results, and among the most significant is the control of tire useful life for the fleet, one of the highest expenses in the mining segment.

According to Walfrido, “in fleet management, controlling the useful life of tires is one of the largest expenses in the segment, and its impact on the area’s budget is significant.”

In addition, the automatic generation of work orders delivered practical gains for operations.

Another point highlighted by Walfrido was ease of use: “It is a dynamic tool, with a great interface, intuitive.”

Team adaptation to Engeman®

Every new tool requires the team to adapt so that old habits are replaced by the new solution, allowing it to deliver the results it promises. The biggest change Walfrido reported was cultural, with the shift from physical paper to the digital environment:

“Technology creates some discomfort, but every change process involves leaving your comfort zone.”

Despite the challenges, the team managed to adapt and today reaps the benefits of the transformation.

Another point that is a differentiator for any new tool is technical support. This is because it is common for questions and challenges to arise during the adaptation process. When sharing Bemisa’s experience, Walfrido reinforced the importance of having close support at the start of implementation:

“It is important in the implementation phase to use the assisted implementation modality. Since it is a new tool, it naturally generates some questions that must be resolved.”

Another point he highlighted was investing in technical training: “Purchasing training for developers allows customizations to be performed more quickly, without being limited by the availability of the Engeman team.”

Bemisa’s next steps

Despite the progress made, Bemisa believes it is still exploring less than 50% of Engeman®’s full potential, as it is a highly flexible software. The next goals include expanding system use and performing strategic integrations, as Walfrido explained:

“We still have a lot to explore in the tool. We still use little of what the tool offers. We estimate that so far, we are using less than 50% of what the tool offers. We need to move forward with integration with our ERP TOTVS, the SODEP fleet dispatch control system, and the Elipse supervisory system for the plant’s equipment.”

Now, Bemisa’s next step is to expand its use of the software and integrate it with other systems in the operation, ensuring increasingly strategic and integrated management. Engeman® is a robust software solution that integrates with any system to ensure fast and reliable maintenance management.
